UPDF Wazalendo Sacco Moves To Support Development

UPDF Wazalendo Savings and Credit Cooperative Organization (WSACCO) donated One Hundred and thirty Four Million Uganda shillings (134,000,000) to be shared among the UPDF Chieftaincy of Medical Services and Chieftaincy of Education, Culture and Sports.
Speaking at the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs Headquarters Mbuya hill, Maj Gen Sam Kavuma, the WSACCO board chairman, said the money will be used to support the various on-going development projects in the two chieftaincies.

The UPDF Chieftaincy of Medical Services received a cheque worth One Hundred and thirty Million (130,000,000) while the Chieftaincy of Education, Culture and Sports bagged a cheque worth Four Million (4,000,000) shillings to support the different sporting activities. 
In an effort to improve on the available medical services, the Chieftaincy of Medical Services will spend the money towards building a maternity ward at the Land Forces Headquarter in Bombo.

According to Maj Gen Sam Kavuma, WSACCO exists to build a saving culture on top of availing loans with lower interest rates to its members. “Saving in groups contributes to national economic growth and many countries in the world have taken this path,” said Maj Gen Kavuma. He urged members to continue sensitizing non-members about the benefits of Wsacco. Brig Phinehas Katirima, the UPDF Chief of Education, Sports and Culture, applauded WSACCO for its unconditional assistance towards the development of education, sports and culture. He announced that next year’s Commander’s Cup in Masindi District will attract 24 teams.Col Dr Stephen Kusasira, who represented the UPDF Chief of Medical Services appreciated WSACCO for placing health among its priority list.

The function was also attended by the UPDF Chief of Personnel and Administration Brig George Igumba, the Chief Political Commissar Brig Henry Matsiko, and WSACCO Chief Executive Officer Brig Simon Ochan, among others.
