UPDF CDF Meets Monusco Force Commander

The Chief of Defence Forces, Gen David Muhoozi has this morning Tuesday, 16 January 2018 met the MONUSCO Force Commander, Lt Gen Derrick Mbuyiselo Mgwebi. The meeting took place on the heels of the 14th January 2018 recently concluded regional meeting of Chiefs of Defence Staff and military Intelligence.

The two leaders discussed the prevailing security situation in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo where MONUSCO has a presence.

Gen Muhoozi conveyed UPDF condolences to the Force Commander upon the death of Tanzania UN Peacekeepers who were killed during the recent ADF attack. He reiterated Uganda’s resolve to work with all regional partners and MONUSCO to totally defeat and wipe out this menace.

Gen Mgwebi on behalf of MONUSCO, commended UPDF efforts towards pacifying the region. He pledged MONUSCO full commitment to coordinate with all friendly forces in the region and also support in all ways possible their counter ADF operations when requested so.

The two military leaders further agreed to continue exchanging information of mutual security interest and further pledged to support the Joint follow up mechanism centre established by the ICGLR in Kasese when activated.

The meeting was attended by the Joint Chief of Staff, Maj Gen Joseph Musanyufu among others.
